Mkhwanazi's defence challenges state's case

BRAKPAN - Suspended deputy EMPD chief Julius Mkhwanazi is poking holes in the state’s case, this as he and his co-accused continue their bail application at the Brakpan Magistrate's Court.

Mkhwanazi and five others have been charged with the 2022 murder of Emmanuel Mbense, whose body was found in a dam in Nigel.

Mkhwanazi's defence team argued that he should not face a murder charge because he was called to the scene only after Mbense had been killed.

His lawyer, Peter Wilkins, detailed the timeline provided by investigating officer Nomsa Masuku, tracing the events from when the group allegedly first targeted Mbense for questioning, up until his death.
