Mkhwebane impeachment | Inquiry is a DA, ANC witch-hunt

Suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has given her long-awaited first testimony at the Section 194 Inquiry into her fitness to hold office.

CAPE TOWN - Suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane claims her impeachment inquiry is nothing more than a DA and ANC political witch-hunt.

All because she dared touch the untouchables.

Mkhwebane has given her long-awaited first testimony at the Section 194 Inquiry into her fitness to hold office and said she's never known peace as the Public Protector.

"The issue of the Phala Phala because that led to my suspension, especially,  we've dealt with the issue that I wrote the letter, asked the questions, and that led to the issue of my suspension, not even waiting for the courts to issue their judgement.

"The likes of Minister Pravin Gordhan in respect of the so-called rogue unit scandal and the fake retirement of Mr Pillay, because that is clear and there is evidence that we're going to deal with," she said.

Section 194 Inquiry chair Richard Dyantyi said: "You would have noticed we listened tentatively. I would have set the tone up front and asked members to be very patient, more than they would have been in the last seven months.

"We're still going to have members asking questions, after this we're going to have our own time for deliberations. It is at that point that you're going to hear us indicating whether the evidence that was played in front of us is relevant to what we need. For now we are listening."
