Modise defends stance on Lady R
JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Defence is adamant it didn't violate any laws when it received a consignment from the Lady R ship.
Defence Minister Thandi Modise says her department went through all the right channels and paid a deposit for what was received.

The ship gained infamy after allegations that it loaded weapons from South Africa for use in the war in Ukraine when it docked in Simon's Town.
Modise was answering questions during the peace and security cluster briefing on Wednesday.

"Our previous statements on the issues of the ship Lady R stand. We reiterate that that which was ordered by the Department of Defence was received in December 2022," she said.
Modise says neither her department nor government has done anything wrong.
The minister insists the country broke no laws.
