SPRINGS - The Ramasedi family was preparing for the tombstone unveiling ceremony of a family member when tragedy struck.
Daniel Ramasedi's niece, Moipone, died in a horrific fire with her four-day-old newborn.
Ramasedi said the family was reeling in shock following Moipone's death; she was named after his late mother, whose tombstone was to be unveiled.
Instead, Ramasedi, alongside his family, finds himself preparing for a funeral for his niece, who died in a house fire with her baby in Springs on Tuesday.
Ramasedi said they are still unclear as to what caused the fire and now rely on police investigations.
“The police have promised to ensure that they will do everything in their power to go in-depth as to what happened. The investigating officer has advised us that the forensic expert has been to the scene.
"We are now waiting on the analysis to know what happened, whether it was accidental or there was foul play,” he said.
The family held a memorial service for the deceased on Wednesday.
Ramasedi said they have not yet confirmed the date for the funeral as they are still waiting for the postmortem to be completed.
