JOHANNESBURG - Allegations that teaching posts are being sold at schools have triggered a nationwide investigation.
The Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) has been tasked with investigating the allegations.
They will also probe “ghost” teachers drawing salaries, and verify the identities of pupils and educators.

Working with the Department of Basic Education and all nine provincial departments, the ELRC aims to complete the verification process of teachers and pupils by October 2025.
The forensic investigation is expected to be completed by June 2026.
Spokesperson Bernice Loxton said the timelines are realistic and won’t disrupt schooling.
She added that since news of the probe have been announced on 15 August, more teachers have come forward with information.
“The information we have collected will all be considered in the investigation,” Loxton said.
Loxton says reports will be submitted to provincial departments and teachers found to be in breach of employment contracts will face disciplinary action.
Additionally cases of criminality will be referred to law enforcement.
