JOHANNESBURG - The Water Research Commission has urged local government to hire skilled and experienced staff to address the issues plaguing water and electricity supply.
The Commission said many municipalities countrywide are dysfunctional due to unqualified personnel.
The Commission’s Stanley Liphadzi said municipalities should have more engineers.
“There is a study released by the Water Research Commission showing that few municipalities employ engineers and basic officers who can deal with water issues.
“So because of that, it's difficult to deal with issues of water, electricity; these issues need high-skilled personnel, so we can have a sustainable supply of water, clean water. Water quality is important, same as sufficient water supply.'
