More hung councils expected after local government elections

JOHANNESBURG - Political parties and the electorate should brace themselves for an increased number of hung Councils after this year’s municipal elections.

That’s the view of leadership experts and the South African Local Government Association.

Coalitions in municipalities increased during the 2016 and 2021 elections while instability in some metros affected service delivery.
