Morero calls for united push to reclaim hijacked buildings

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has reiterated his call for the private sector to partner with the city in reclaiming hijacked buildings.

City officials inspected a hijacked building in Marshalltown on Tuesday and have issued occupants with a seven-day notice to vacate.

The inspection follows the fatal shooting of DJ Warras at Carlton Centre last week. Warras, who was involved in efforts to clean up hijacked buildings in the inner city.

Morero says a collaborative approach is essential to address the problem. 

"A coordinated effort between the city government, the private sector and law enforcement agencies is needed for us to succeed in this battle."
