Mosiuoa Lekota's remains at a church before going home one last time

BLOEMFONTEIN - The body of the late former defence minister and COPE leader Mosiuoa Lekota has finally arrived at the St Rose Catholic Church in Bochabela, Bloemfontein. 

This was after it departed from the morgue just after 3pm on Friday. A church service is expected to get underway until 5pm. 

From there, Lekota's body will be transported to the family home.

The 77-year-old died in a Johannesburg hospital last Wednesday. He will be laid to rest on Saturday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a special official funeral category 2 for Lekota.

Lekota is remembered as a patriot and freedom fighter whose life has shaped the struggle for democracy and a non-racial South Africa.
