Mother and son killed in Delft shooting

DELFT - A 38-year-old Delft woman was allegedly shot and killed for drug dealing.

Suraya Davids was killed along with her 12-year-old son while four other people were wounded on Friday night.

Police say an unidentified gunman entered Davids’ house and opened fire on the victims.

12-year-old Ovilin Davids was killed along with his mother Suraya.

Davids’ grandmother said she heard someone screaming, and then went to look, and that's when my granddaughter came around.

“She just said, 'Mommy mommy, they shot my mommy is dead.’ Then I went to the house and I saw the blood.”

Moments later, an unidentified gunman entered the house and shot at everyone inside.

“Listen here, the drugs that were there, he brought them buttons to sell. I can't really say if it's the motive, but he always brought her stuff."

Ovilin's 16-year-old sister survived the attack by hiding.

Andile Metshi, a community activist, said killings in the area are continuing despite the army's deployment.

"I think there's been more than seven murders in this street alone. Victims die from gunshot wounds. So we want to pray against that.”

Mluleki Mabutho cried when he was talking about his daughter who had been killed.

“My daughter was born in 1995; her ex-boyfriend, a foreign national, killed her. I am hurt. People are killed here every day. My neighbour was shot while sitting outside."
