EAST LONDON - There are more questions than answers about the circumstances that led to the death of a three-year-old Eastern Cape girl earlier this month.

Langalam Viki died after falling into a pit toilet at Glen Grey Primary School.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the school has new toilets and police investigations will answer all the questions around her death.

She said, "we've provided the new South African national standards approved infrastructure and we've been explaining this. It means that the school had new toilets and again I can't stand here as government say she didn't but the fact of the matter which I want to clarify is that she was not found in the pit latrine but she was found behind it."

"Langalam was found in the tank of a senior toilet which is not appropriate for her because she was found in the adult section."

"And I don't want to be asking questions but why did she go to the senior toilets and she was not found in the pit side which is physically impossible for a human body to make its way from the pit side of the toilet to the back of the toilet."

"I don't know what it's called in English but the toilet tank, that's where she was found and she was too young to be able to lift the manhole that covers the lid. So the manhole lid was removed and at four-years-old and her body she would have not lifted that manhole."
