They were arrested following the death of alleged gangster Wade Price and the kidnapping and assault of Price's fellow gang members last December.
The 10 members were initially denied bail in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court while their co-accused the eleventh suspect was granted R1 000 bail due to health challenges.

As a result, the lawyers for the 10 members challenged the bail denial at the Western Cape High Court.
As a result, the court ordered that the 10 Anti-Gang Unit be released on bail on condition that they do not return back to Manenberg where the crime was committed for whatever reason, until the conclusion of the trial.
They were also ordered not to communicate directly or indirectly to the witnesses.
