National Dialogue | Convention begins despite controversy

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa says the National Convention, which kicks off the National Dialogue, needs to ensure that resolutions are implemented.

He says that South Africans are tired of programmes that don’t yield results, and that the initiative must ensure it addresses the issues citizens continue to grapple with. 

Ramaphosa insists there was no government interference in the lead-up to the event.

Civil society organisations want to see the unemployment crisis and a stagnant economy at the top of the agenda. 

Political parties like Build One SA, which is participating in the convention, say they are closely monitoring the programme to see what unfolds. 

The two-day convention continues into Saturday.
