This reverse semigration trend is detailed in a recent migration report by Wise Move, a platform that connects people with moving companies.

The report reveals that nearly a quarter of individuals leaving the Western Cape are returning to Gauteng.

Chante Venter, Co-founder and CEO of Wise Move, says Gauteng continues to serve as South Africa’s economic hub, attracting those looking to launch or advance their careers.

“The data shows people are moving because of job opportunities,” Venter explains.

“They’re relocating for economic reasons, education, to be with their spouses and generally for good reasons,” she adds.
