New venue secured for Marshalltown fire inquiry

JOHANNESBURG - The inquiry into the Marshalltown fire that claimed over 70 lives will resume on Wednesday.

It was forced to adjourn as the venue was not compliant with safety by-laws.

City of Joburg fire chiefs served it with a notice of non-compliance.

A new location has been secured.

"The new venue has been secured, there are just a couple of tests that need to be conducted in that particular venue," said Thulani Makhubel.

"There's also issues of compliance that need to be looked into but the new venue has been secured," he said.

"As soon as all of those have been looked at and found to be satisfactory, we'll then announce through a directive from the Chairman of the Commission."
