NICD investigating cholera in other provinces

The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) says it is investigating how far the Cholera outbreak has spread in the country.

PRETORIA - The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) says it is investigating how far the Cholera outbreak has spread in the country.

It is advising people in high risk areas to avoid travelling to other provinces.

Meanwhile, two more people have died from cholera in Hammanskraal, bringing the death toll to 17.

The Gauteng Health department says there are currently 67 patients in hospital with gastrointestinal infection.

The number of laboratory-confirmed cases of cholera is standing at 29.

The department has urged people to wash their hands with water and soap, or alcohol-based sanitiser  before handling food and after using the toilet.

Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink says funds will be set aside to deal with the water issues in Hammanskraal.
