Nkululeko Dunga appointment raises a few eyebrows

JOHANNESBURG - The ANC Veterans League has expressed concern over the appointment of EFF Provincial Leader Nkululeko Dunga as Gauteng Finance MEC.

The League said it is disappointed by Premier Panyaza Lesufi's decision to entrust billions to a man who was relieved of his position in Ekurhuleni after allegations of poor financial performance and non-compliance.

Spokesperson Snuki Zikalala said they are determined to ensure that those who hold senior government positions are ethical, incorruptible, and committed to serving the people, and plans to pursue the matter with the ANC.

Political analyst Lesiba Teffo said this could come at a serious political cost. He warned that it may be time for the ANC to step back and think carefully.

“Maybe rightly so, they should be concerned, because going straight into the matter for me, this is a type of decision that's going to have dire consequences.”

“I don't think the elders in the ANC, the supporters, rank would gladly embrace any working relationship with the EFF, more so if one considers that the primary target is to unseat the president of the ANC.

“Whatever means or strategies you want to use, whatever English or language you want to use, but the ultimate objective has been for a few years to unseat the president of the ANC.

“Now, to reward them by giving that position. Remember, being an MEC of finance in South Africa, in Gauteng, that is a top MEC position, right? Any other position, and you give that, especially treasury. Remember, by the way, somebody might say, oh, but who's the leader of the EFF?

“By the way, is this not the leader who once said, yes, I am willing, I am willing to join the government of national unity, on condition you give us the ministry of finance? It's always treasury, treasury, treasury. Perhaps it's time we pause and reflect.
