North West gets a new police boss

JOHANNESBURG - There’s a new SAPS Provincial Commissioner in the North West.

Arthur Peter Adams takes over the reins from 1 August 2026.

He takes over from Ryno Naidoo, who’s been acting in the position since 2024.

Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane announced the appointment on Thursday.

"Lieutenant General Adams brings with him 34 years of distinguished service, making him one of the most experienced operational commanders within the South African Police Service," Dimpane said.

"He is a highly specialised operator, having qualified as a Public Order Police member, National Intervention Unit operator and trainer, Advanced VIP Close Protector and among the pioneering members selected to serve within the elite Counter Assault Team, which is one of the country’s most specialised tactical capabilities designed to respond to medium- and high-risk operations."
