Operation Shanela hits Bekkersdal

JOHANNESBURG - Operation Shanela closed the net on crime in Bekkersdal and Westonaria on Saturday night.

Police nabbed drunken driving suspects, illegal immigrants and recovered illegal firearms.

Deputy Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni said 18 drunken drivers and 11 immigrants were nabbed.

"Our crime intelligence [unit] made us proud. As they got into a special operation, they managed to arrest two people for possession of illegal firearms," he said.
