Over 80 traffic transport officials arrested: Mbalula

JOHANNESBURG - Law enforcement will crack the whip on illegal driving licenses and corruption within the Department of Transport.

According to minster Fikile Mbalula, nearly 100 officials have been arrested for their role in the issuing of fake documents.

He says a recent arrest involved six officials and cost the state R60 million.

The Department says it will introduce stricter rules around the issuing of driver's licenses.

This aims to produce competent drivers and eliminate any chance of cheating the system.

Mbalula says authorities will pull all the stops to root out corruption in the department.
