Parliament committee to assess FMD impact in Free State

BLOEMFONTEIN - Parliament's Agriculture Committee will visit the Free State this week. 

It will assess the impact of foot-and-mouth disease and government's response.

The outbreak has spread to nine provinces, with the Free State as the epicentre.

The highly contagious livestock disease is threatening the agricultural sector. 

It raises concerns over jobs, food security and export losses.

The committee will meet government officials, farmers and municipalities.
