JOHANNESBURG - Parliament says it won't be instituting an investigation into the controversial R22-million monumental flag.

The parliamentary committee on sports, arts and culture received over 30,000 petitions.

Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa defended the project, saying the flag is a symbol of nationhood and common identity with the potential to unite people.

South Africans came out with guns blazing to say no to the flag.

The sentiment was that the funds should instead be redirected to address service delivery issues.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has since ordered the department to abandon the project.
