Parliament to study Constitutional Court judgment on Phala Phala

CAPE TOWN - Parliament said it will carefully study and consider the Constitutional Court’s judgment on the Phala Phala matter and its implications for the procedures of the National Assembly.

On Friday morning, the Apex Court delivered a landmark ruling.

The ruling handed down by Chief Justice Mandisa Maya found that Parliament's vote on Phala Phala was invalid and unconstitutional.

The court has referred the matter to the impeachment committee.

“Parliament notes and respects the judgment of the Constitutional Court in the matter brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) challenging the Sixth Parliament’s handling of the Section 89 Independent Panel Report relating to President Cyril Ramaphosa,” Parliament said in a statement.
