Parliament’s Impeachment Committee's preparatory work to continue

CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa has reaffirmed his respect for judicial independence and separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution.

This comes in reaction to the Western Cape High Court granting an interdict in favour of Ramaphosa’s application to temporarily halt the work of Parliament’s Impeachment Committee.

However, the Committee says that its preparatory work will continue next week.

The ruling in the President's favour stops the Impeachment Committee from proceeding until Ramaphosa's review of the Phala Phala report is concluded.

The news led to MPs reacting along party lines to the judgment.

The President’s review of the Phala Phala Independent Panel report will be heard in the High Court in Cape Town from 2-4 September.
