JOHANNESBURG - The architect behind Jacob Zuma's Nkandla estate in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has been ordered to pay National Treasury over R147million.
The SIU secured a Special Tribunal judgment on Wednesday against Minenhle Makhanya.
The amount covers five main claims, each relating to different categories of overpayments, unauthorised works and excessive professional fees.

Makhanya, who was a principal agent, was responsible for the security upgrades at Zuma's homestead.
According to the SIU, this amount is the financial loss suffered by the Department of Public Works as a result of unlawful conduct.
The judgment found that Makhanya’s appointment and subsequent conduct in the Nkandla upgrades were unlawful and resulted in significant financial losses to the State.
