'Personal and desperate': Mogotsi takes aim at investigating officer amid bail bid

JOHANNESBURG - Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi has launched a blistering attack against the investigating officer, claiming he has a personal vendetta against him.

Mogotsi appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for his fourth attempt at securing bail.

He told the court that the investigating officer received a congratulatory phone call shortly after his arrest, raising questions about what he says may have been behind his detention.

“The tricks and the lies of the investigating officer have reached the ceiling, and he has now become very personal and desperate.

“After being cuffed, being in the vehicle with the investigating officer and another officer, a white male, the investigating officer receiving a congratulatory call… As he answered, he said, "Sorry, sir, I'll come back to you when I'm done with him.”

During his bail application, Mogotsi rejected allegations that he was planning to escape from custody.

The state says he intended to flee during his previous court appearance, but he claims there is no evidence to support that claim.

“I would believe in case the report was presented before the Honourable Court, showing or outlining that this is how I wanted to escape. Or perhaps they found a certain device, or they found a uniform in my cell, or somebody was caught communicating with me.  Without that, I cannot agree.”
