JOHANNESBURG - Two people were shot dead in Protea Glen by a police captain amid a birthday celebration for the captain’s girlfriend on Saturday night.
Witnesses allegedly saw the officer pull out a gun and fatally shooting the female officer and her brother before turning the gun on himself.
Three others were injured during the incident.
The Protea police station have opened an inquest docket while investigating two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Gauteng police commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni has sent his condolences to all the affected families.
Mthombeni says he is disheartened and disappointed by this incident and he encourages officers to make use of Employee Health and Wellness facilities to assist them to deal with any problems they may be facing whether work or personal.
