Police focus on firearms after Sandton shooting

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng's police commissioner Elias Mawela says removing illegal guns from the streets remains a top priority.

Mawela says their mission is to recover stolen firearms.

He was commenting following a shooting incident at a popular Sandton restaurant on Saturday where one person was arrested and three others wounded.

"Our detectives are hard at work so that we can trace those that are responsible of that heinous crime," Mawela said.

"Our approach as the police is to remove the tools of trade used by the criminals to commit these robbery aggravating and one of those is to remove firearms."

Mawela says police are investigating the matter.
