CAPE TOWN - Deputy President Paul Mashatile has attributed South Africa's ongoing water crisis to poor maintenance of infrastructure saying many challenges could be avoided by plugging the leaks in the system.
Mashatile was responding to heated questions from MPs in Parliament.

He said the Department of Water and Sanitation convened a Water Indaba in 2025 to find solutions to the country's water supply issues.
"We find that often the challenges of water are created where infrastructure is not maintained. So, this is one of the important issues we've raised. But it is important that water authorities should maintain infrastructure," he said.
