President appoints new board after months of delays

JOHANNESBURG - After a six-month delay, the SABC has a new board.

President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed the 12-member team to serve the public broadcaster for five years.

Khathutshelo Ramukumba has been appointed chairperson of the board.

Former SABC head of news, Phathiswa Magopeni, makes a comeback at the public broadcaster as a board member.

Media Monitoring Africa's William Bird has expressed relief at the appointments.

But he says the appointment of Ramukumba as the chair was a surprise.
