Process to appoint new Public Protector underway

The process to appoint the country's new Public Protector is in full swing. Eight candidates have been shortlisted out of 38 nominees.

JOHANNESBURG - The process to appoint the country's new Public Protector is in full swing.

Eight candidates have been shortlisted out of 38 nominees.

These include acting public protector Kholeka Gcaleka, Tumi Mmusinyane, Muvhango Lukhaimane and Olivier Josie.

There is 50-50 gender split and all political parties represented in the committee gave the shortlist a thumbs up.

Suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's term of office ends in October.

The candidates will be interviewed in August.
