Proteas women great Van Niekerk retires

JOHANNESBURG - The Proteas Women will stride into their next chapter without another champion player.

Dane van Niekerk has confirmed her exit from the international game.

Van Niekerk had hinted at her international career is finished.

The world-class all-rounder had missed out on selection for the recent T20 World Cup after failing to meet the minimum fitness requirements required of all players.

This was after she had recovered from a serious ankle injury.

Former captain Van Niekerk played 107 ODIs, 86 T20 Internationals, and a solitary test match.

Her career yielded over 4000 runs across all formats as well as 204 wickets making her one of the elite superstars in the women's game.
