Protecting corruption taints ANC's image - Msimang

JOHANNESBURG - The ANC has a lot of work to do if it hopes to regain voter support.

Party veteran, Mavuso Msimang, has issued the warning, saying that failing to enforce the step-aside rule against corruption-accused members, will further taint the party's image.

Msimang's comments come in the wake of KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's damning corruption allegations against the police minister.

"If the ANC were to continue to cover any of these issues that would be a ticket to down to 30%," he said.

To date the National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza has drawn the line to the explosive claims by Mkhwanazi which have rocked the nation.

Didiza says the claims are still unproven and has instead tasked three key committees to look into the matter.

While the South African Human Rights Commission has welcomed this decision, it is calling for a commission of inquiry into the scathing allegations of corruption and political interference in the Police Service.
