Public sector strike | Nehawu not backing down

Trade union Nehawu says the strike will intensify in areas where there are no essential service workers. This as negotiations continue with government.

JOHANNESBURG - Trade union Nehawu says its members will comply with the court order to halt the strike, but it's not over just yet.

This follows a court ruling on Monday morning which interdicted all essential workers from taking part in protest action.

The strike to push for a 10 percent wage hike has spread across the country.

Nehawu's Zola Saphetha says the union is consulting with its lawyers on the next move.

''We received the judgment ordering us to communicate the order before 1pm, which we've done.

"However, we're working on concluding with our lawyers on legal recourse, to look into all possibilities," Saphetha said.

"We're meeting today to look into those possibilities and make a decision, but the strike is not focusing on health only.

"We've asked them to comply with the frame of the order and not be on the right side of the law."
