JOHANNESBURG – ActionSA and the DA have presented their mayoral candidates for mayor while the ANC is yet to announce theirs.
The local government elections are around the corner and the people gunning for the hot seat are trying to persuade Johannesburg residents that they are the ones who deserve the top post.
Herman Mashaba is ActionSA's candidate and he said he would like another chance to clean up the city.
"I have got unfinished businesses in the City of Johannesburg. When I see the kind of people I need to compete against, I think ActionSA stands a very good chance.
“My priorities are to get the city to work again, people talk about water, electricity and so forth. The city is facing major problems. The reason why we don't have water is because of lack of infrastructure. The ANC government, I don’t know whether they forgot or they didn’t know that as the city grows, you need to upgrade and build new infrastructure.”
On the other hand, Helen Zille revealed the DA’s five-point plan which promises to tackle dry taps, crime and unemployment.
"The people of Joburg pay for these services but they often don’t get them. We will stop the stealing and ring fence services. Money collected for water must fix water, not fund Johnnie Walker Blue."
Zille said she has a plan to restore the city to its former glory.
