JOHANNESBURG - Tshepisong residents are demanding answers over a months-long power outage.
Residents have been without electricity since January, after a transformer was damaged during an attempted repair by City Power.
Now, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is on a campaign in the area, where residents have raised fresh concerns over unemployment and access to basic services.
Residents are unhappy.
"We haven't had electricity since January, after a transformer was damaged during a City Power repair. They've since instructed us to buy electricity, including a transformer service fee, with some paying up to R500, but the power has still not been restored.
“The community is largely unemployed and struggles to survive on social grants.
Poor roads and recurring sewage spills are adding to their problems.
“As a diabetic, I am worried that without electricity or a fridge, I cannot safely store my medication, especially now as temperatures rise."
