JOHANNESBURG - Rand Water is warning Johannesburg residents that airlocks in pipelines could further delay the restoration of water.
This follows A 58-hour maintenance of pump stations and water treatment plants.
Some residents in the city have not had water for up to a week.
Rand Water says some reservoirs have run empty and it will take several days for water to be fully restored.
It says airlocks are inevitable after the system has been empty for days.
An airlock is air in a pipeline that prevents the flow of water.
The utility says the system may have to be decommissioned to release any airlocks that occurred during the maintenance process.
