CENTURION - Eugene Modise has been re-elected as chair of the ANC in Tshwane.
This is despite him facing allegations of tender fraud and corruption.
The DA has laid a criminal complaint against. The charges relate to a security tender at the Tshwane Metro.
The Deputy Mayor and Finance MMC says the complaint is malicious and has no merit.
“There was no corruption, nor was there anything wrong with acquiring the tender,” he says.
"It was acquired before I became a councillor, and it was acquired through court," he adds.
Regional ANC leaders maintain that the coalition government in Tshwane has improved governance and service delivery.
In the past, winning the ANC regional chairpersonship was almost a sure path to the mayoral chain.
But for a party that last tasted outright victory in Tshwane in 2011, the stakes are even higher as the ANC looks ahead to the upcoming municipal elections.
