PARIS - France has returned three colonial-era skulls to Madagascar.
These include one believed to be that of a Malagasy king decapitated by French troops, during a 19th-century massacre.
King Toera's skull was handed over in the first restitution of human remains, since France passed a law facilitating their return in 2023.
The French government has new legislation to simplify the return of cultural property, taken between 1815 and 1972.
The law allows items to be returned through a decree instead of lengthy parliamentary approval.
Africa expert and researcher, Sipho Mantula, discussed this with eNCA.
