SA faces shortage of ambulances, staff

Several provinces are battling to operate their full fleets of ambulances.

JOHANNESBURG - Several provinces are battling to operate their full fleets of ambulances.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla says some are only performing at half capacity.

This is due to a shortage of paramedics.

It means the country has less than half of what it needs for residents.

The Department's spokesperson Foster Mohale says one of the reasons for the shortage is that the ambulance vehicles are taken in for repairs more often than other vehicles.
