SA mourns legendary playwright Athol Fugard

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa has lost a literary giant.

Athol Fugard, the legendary playwright and anti-apartheid activist, passed away on Saturday.

Over a career spanning seven decades, his work held up a mirror to society, exposing the brutal injustices of apartheid and challenging the racial laws that defined an era.

To reflect on his life and legacy, we’re joined by fellow playwright Malcom Purkey, who is the Director of Wits Theatre.
