SA reports a decrease in sexual offences

PRETORIA - Sexual offences continued on a downward trend in the last quarter of 2023. Third quarter crime stats revealed that sexual offences further declined by 1.7%.

The Police minister says this category continues to see declines despite an increase in the reporting of sexual crimes.

The country's DNA backlog problems are over says Cele who says the historic backlog is now at zero.

Police minister Bheki Cele attributed the success to expansion of the DNA lab which was opened by the President Cyril Ramaphosa in August last year.
