SA Tourism board advised to cancel SA-Tottenham deal

The nearly R1-billion proposed deal would have seen Spurs promote South Africa as a tourist destination.

JOHANNESBURG - Brand Africa founder and former SA Tourism Deputy Chair Thebe Ikalafeng says canceling the Tottenham Hotspur sponsorship deal is the right decision.

He said: "I think contextually, it is an irrational decision because if you look at the state of the nation brand South Africa, the state of infrastructure, the state of crime which are all the issues that are affecting us right now as a country, the last thing we want is to have visitors come here and be affected by the issues which will then exacerbate the issues of South Africa as an ideal place to visit."
