SA Weather Service issues warning amidst severe weather conditions

MAHIKENG- The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple warnings of heavy rains further signaling severe weather conditions. 

The weather service has issued an orange level-5 warning for KwaZulu-Natal, with showers and thundershowers expected over the northwestern parts of the province.

These weather conditions are expected to leave trails of disruption from flooded roads, bridges and houses, while also affecting essential services.

For the southwestern parts of the province, the SA Weather Service warned that there would be localised flooding, with a level-2 warning in place.

Thus residents are being advised to avoid fast-flowing streams and rivers, and deep water.

In the North West, emergency services officials say they are on alert in case of problems.

The impact on the roads has been unimaginable but as a department, they will ensure revaluating road traffic but also mitigate the high risks of heavy downpours.

He affirmed that proper deployment will be done to ensure that in areas where roads are flooded, traffic is monitored until it is safe to do so. 

“In areas where bridges are submerged vehicles are stopped from crossing those bridges until it is safe to do so,” he said 

Meanwhile, a tornado ripped through Tshwane in Gauteng on Tuesday, damaging buildings, traffic lights are out and trees have fallen over in several areas.
