The ANC and SACP met on Sunday, to discuss escalating tensions within the tripartite alliance, particularly concerning the ANC’s coalition with the Democratic Alliance in the Government of National Unity.
JOHANNESBURG - The SACP is charting a new political path.
It will focus on advancing socialism and strengthening the voice of the working class.
The party's manifesto is the result of consultations with community, organisations and progressive groups ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
The party’s Tinyiko Ntini said this was a major step towards contesting the 2026 local government elections independently.
"This is the moment where the party is defining its clear route and intention to bring about an alternative system in this country, which is socialism, that we believe in. And clearly moving from here, ours is to listen and take care from the working class. That we represent because we are in alliance with a multi-class organization. But that does not mean there is no working class.
“Unfortunately the voice of the working class in the movement has been diminishing because of those that indeed their intentions clearly is only the National Democratic Society. The manifesto that will be launched today, it's as a product of intense discussions with various community-based organizations, progressive forces of the left, and which ultimately the Central Committee of the Party,” Ntini said.
