JOHANNESBURG - International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola said leaders have reaffirmed their support for efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak.
Lamola was speaking on the sidelines of a two-day SADC Ministerial Committee meeting in Malawi.
Infections in the DRC have topped 2,000, with 798 deaths confirmed.
“We also engaged with regard to the current situation of Ebola and how member states can continue to support the regional efforts to curb Ebola through the Africa CDC, the World Health Organization.
“As you are aware, we have already donated about five million US dollars to the Africa CDC to support that fight, including our expertise that we have from the national community and a disease centre from our Department of Health to support these efforts.
“Other member states have also pledged their solidarity with that process. So indeed, this was a very fruitful meeting. We also received a report with regards to democracy, the elections across the region, and those reports will therefore now be processed towards the summit in South Africa,” he said.
