Sadtu concerned over violence in schools after fatal stabbing

The union is calling on communities to work together with the schools to curb crime and violence.

DURBAN - Teacher union Sadtu says it's concerned about violence in schools following the death of a Grade 10 pupil at Mayville Secondary School, allegedly following a stabbing.

Sadtu's Nomarashiya Caluza said, "these incidents are just happening as we always say as Sadtu that our communities they have this level of crime that is going up, and those things we even find them in schools."

"Sometimes, you just see these things they stem from the community .. that's is why in this particular these people were waiting for the learner outside the school and they stabbed him to death."

"It's something that needs attention, our schools are slowly becoming war zones."
