Other parties, including the IFP, backed the call in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The department was briefing Parliament on its state of readiness for the 2024 matric exams.

Bosa's Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster said the current matric pass rate of 30-percent, with conditions, simply does not equip pupils for life beyond matric.

General secretary, Mugwena Maluleke from the SA Democratic Teachers Union discussed this with eNCA
