Chaotic scenes have often played out at universities countrywide due to dissatisfaction with NSFAS grants. On Wednesday, hundreds of students led by their Representative Councils marched to Parliament to submit a list of grievances with the scheme.

The Commission says while it supports the right to access to higher education, it's concerned that violence appears to be the preferred method of getting the message across.

The SAHRC will hold a meeting with relevant stakeholders to discuss the matter.
