SANDF Deployment | Operation Prosper firing blanks

JOHANNESBURG - Westbury residents are questioning the multi-million rand military operation meant to tackle gang violence in Gauteng.

More than a month after the launch of Operation Prosper, the community says little has changed on the ground.

Shootings continue unchecked, with children still caught in the crossfire.

Grade five pupil Langston Kok was shot during the latest outbreak of violence in Westbury on Sunday evening.

Langston is the latest victim in a community plagued by near-daily gang violence.

Last week, two men were killed in a separate shooting in Westbury.

All this is happening despite Operation Prosper.

The year-long SANDF deployment is supposed to stabilise gang-ridden communities across Gauteng.

Westbury is one of the targeted areas but residents say they have seen soldiers only briefly since the operation began.

Community leaders are now questioning whether Operation Prosper is making any meaningful difference on the ground.
